ELAINE (Kelsey, 1939) - Jap. - White - Midseason. Small white guards slightly tinted pink, staminodes long and narrow, yellow fading white. Carpels gray tipped red. A nice flower. Wild catalog, 1955.

ELAINE PFEIFFER (Pfeiffer, 1932) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Tall. Light pink. List in Bulletin 91.

EL CAPITAN (Auten, 1937) - Semi-Double - Red - Late Midseason. Large, light red. Good stems. Bulletin 69.

ELEANOR (Winchell, 1946) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Fragrant. Large, fully double bomb type, deep old rose pink color with unusually large petals; strong stems and plenty of dark green foliage. Very attractive. Bulletin 103.

ELEANOR ANN SMITH (Franklin, 1920) - Double - Pink - M.

ELEANOR DANA (Dana, 1926) - Double - Pink. Fragrant. A fine silvery salmon pink. Bomb type. Large flower. Good heavy stem, but not large enough to hold the immense flowers in wet weather. Similar to MONS. JULES ELIE, but better color, texture and form. Bulletin 28.

ELEGANS SUPERBISSIMA (Buyck, 1842) - Double - Pink - M.

ELDORADO (Auten, 1956) - Double - Red - Early - Hybrid. Brilliant red bomb, with some Japanese type petaloids in the full center. Officinalis x albiflora. Letter from Mr. Auten, April, 1956. Auten's 1956 catalog.

ELFIN PINK (Auten, 1937) - Single - Pink - Early. A soft even pink that holds its color unusually well. Medium size. Bulletin 69.

ELFIN WHITE (Auten, 1941) - Single - White - Early. List in Bulletin 91.

ELGIN (Brown, 1952) - Double - Pink. Pleasing fragrance. Large double pink with touch of lavender. Flowers are high built. Good plant and foliage. Brown's Peony Gardens, 1955.

ELIE CHAVALIER (Dessert, 1908) - Double - Pink - DISCARDED - M.

ELISA (Dessert, 1922) (Dessert-Doriat) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. Cup-shaped flower of perfect form but small; carmine-hydrangea pink, shaded silvery salmon. Stems good. A glorious soft pinki graceful bearing and wonderful properties. List in Bulletin 60. M.

ELISE (Dans, 1926) - Double - Pink. Fragrant. Light, clear pink. Rose type. Good habit and stem Bulletin 28.

EARL OF JERSEY (Kelway) - Double - Pink - M.

ELISE RENAULT (Doriat, 1927) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. More nearly approaching a perfect sphere in form than any other peony; this silvery lilac flower, borne on strong upright stems, with its petals not too crowded nor too loose to become ragged, makes a sight that is not soon to be forgotten. List in Bulletin 60. M.

ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING (Brand, 1907) - Double - White - Very Late. Very tall. Very fragrant Very large. Creamy blush on opening, becoming white with a pale yellow glow in its depths, and prominent red marks in center and on outer petals. Spreading habit; floriferous; strong, but crooked stems. Glossy foliage. Does not always open well, and its stems are poor. At its best the flowers are very large and of excellent form. The red marks are frequently lacking. (A beautiful flower when it condescends to bloom.) M.

ELIZABETH DESSERT (Dorist, 1932) - Jap. - Red. Dark red guards, staminodes frilled purple. List in Bulletin 91.

ELIZABETH FOSTER (Saunders, 1941) - Single - Pink - Hybrid. Single deep bright rose pink. Large and brilliant. A lovely plant. Albiflora x lobata. Saunders 1955 catalog. Lists in Bulletin 91 and 129.

ELIZABETH HUNTINGTON (Sass, 1930) - Double - Pink - Early. Tall. Very large. Pale pink fading to nearly white. Strong stems. Bulletin 43.

ELIZABETH, QUEEN OF THE BELGIANS (Farquhar) - Double - Pink - M.

ELLA CHRISTIANDOR - Bulletin 113, page 35. Likely a misprint of ELLA CHRISTIANSEN.

ELLA CHRISTIANSEN (Brand, 1925) - Double - Pink - Late Midseason. Medium tall. Fragrant. Very large. A loose flower of medium pink on long fairly strong stems. Floriferous; vigorous. This variety holds its color unusually well in the sun. M.

ELLA CHRISTINE KELWAY (Kelway, 1899) - Double - Flesh - DISCARDED. Sweetly perfumed. 1930 Wild catalog: Rose type. Large cup-shaped bloom of beautiful soft lavender flesh color, enclosed in large guard petals; very large, full and of perfect form. M.

ELLA LEWIS (Lewis, 1925) - Double - Pink - Midseason. A light pink variety producing good, sturdy stems which hold the flowers erect. Wild 1955 catalog. M.

ELLA WHEELER WILCOX (Brand, 1907) - Double - Pink - Late. Fragrant. Deep shell pink with a light collar. M.

ELLA WINCHELL (Winchell, 1941) - Double - Red - Midseason. Outstanding and most attractive shade of red. Large well formed flower on very strong stems. Good bloomer and color lasts until the flower dies. Bulletin 83.

ELLEN COWLEY (Saunders, 1940) - Semi-Double - Red - Hybrid. Deepest bright cherry. Albiflora x lobata. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129.
