Does anyone know about this cultivar? I saw name on a site but nothing else. I have been unable to find it elsewhere.

Hi, Alana
I just saw some bags with 'Lavender Lady' roots at the local WalMart. They just arrived, but there were stems poking out of the clear plastic bag at least 6 inches long! Guess they must be left overs from some southerly branch of that store.

Did I get a bag?? Of course, I'm such a softy, and they really did look vigorous and desperate. Our ground is unfrozen in spots (none of the buds have started to extend yet), so I tucked the newcomers in, putting a lot of hay around. Along with the peony bags were some seiboldiana elegans hostas, which I like - even as much as the supposedly superior varieties now usually available in the garden stores. I think the hostas may have an even more difficult time, as they usually don't come up until all hint of frost has passed.

The 'Lavendar Lady' roots look lactiflora. I suppose they will flop all over. BUT, one can always use them later - as sample roots to teach division techniques, etc.

Hello IPS members, I got curious after reading messages from Alana and Elizabeth about `Lavender Lady'. I could not find any information about this cultivar anywhere. Even in Carsten's huge database. I did find several people selling it on eBay, however. One sales banner said – "Large Rare Fragrant Peony Bush Lavender Lady - Mauve!" Yes, I guess you could say it's rare, or even more correctly, unknown! Is this one of those plants that has been renamed and mass-produced to sell at WalMart and The Home Depot? Elizabeth, keep us posted.

The pictures on ebay.com seem to be all copies from one and the same picture-postcard or label, just using different digital cameras and so the results are more or less true to the original. My question to those who have already seen one of these plants: Is the text on the label only in english or does it contain dutch or chinese too? It looks very much like a newly renamed chinese lactilfora, just need some time to find out, which one it is.
