Zi Mei Cha Cui. China. Unregistered with the APS. Gansu-mudan. Zi Mei Cha Cui produces large ball shaped reddish-purple flowers carried on arching stems (not on the ground). Dark rockii type flares are hidden by the numerous petals. Plants reach 5 feet after 10 years and 6 to 8 feet in width. Excellent long leaves. Stems are very winter hardy and have survived -30F temperatures only to bloom profusely the following spring. Very attractive and always a showpiece. Gansu-mudan are Chinese rockii lineage hybrids. Recommended for cold winter climates. |
