DRUMMER BOY (Auten, 1952) - Double - Red - Late. A very brilliant dark red bomb on a stiff stemmed dwarf plant, the trim foliage, the beautifully formed blooms, carried boldly erect, all combine to make an especially effective display. Auten 1955 catalog - letter. |

I was always amazed that 'Red Charm' was so highly favored at the APS exhibitions when 'Drummer Boy' is identical in flower and always stood up better during rains in my garden. Just one example why varieties like 'Drummer Boy' have all but disappeared. Some varieties are just "better publicized"! Jim Langhammer |
