Paeonia 'Chief Wapello'

type: [herbaceous peony] – [species cultivar] – [lactiflora]

CHIEF WAPELLO (Willis J. Smith, Ottumwa, Iowa) 1971. Bright red double, medium early. Stands erect. Awarded first class certificate at Van Wert National Show 1960. Seedling of Adolph Rosseau. Bulletin #201 March 1972.

Chief Wapello (W. Smith 1971) ML.  Full double; shining ruby red, medium tall, stands erect.  Medium fragrance.  This is one of the peonies to which visitors tend to gravitate in the field.  A strong grower that seems to tolerate all of the adversity our Midwest climate provides without noticeably diminishing its performance.

Chief Wapello (W. Smith, 1971) Dark ruby red, double, fragrant, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora. An attractive red that is fairly new to us. Caught my eye at the APS show.
